Choosing Triptych Panel
Fig. 1.1 Chosen Triptych panel (Climax, Panel 2)
I have chosen the panel 2 from my triptych. I was happy with how this panel turned out, so I would like to do more enhancement to this panel by adding comic panels it as well as integrating some minor animations to it.
Ideas and References
Fig. 1.2 Manga References
I have searched for some manga panels in order to inspire me on some manga panel layouts. One of the layouts that I have considered was from the third picture from Food Wars, in which it will show the process of the cooking, but it was dropped as it will be to differ from what I was doing. The other manga panel layouts were the easier to comprehend as well as having non complicated layouts which might confuse the readers.
Sketching
Fig. 1.3 Sketch
I have sketched out a few comic panel layouts, the first picture have showed the process layout that have mentioned earlier and the panels that were arranged a more simple layout. On the other hand, the picture on the right was also the sketch of the process layout. The sketch will be about the process of saving the officer from the grave, but it was scrapped as it has strayed too far away from my story and the way that I wanted to present the comic panels.
Fig. 1.4 Comic panel layout attempts
I have tried a few layout that based on my sketch, but after a few digitalization attempt. I have opted for the third idea which has 7 panels.
Digitalization
Fig. 1.5 Digitalization attempts
A few attempts were made according to the layout above, but the layout just did not stick to me. I had to create a few new panels instead of relying too much on the triptych elements that I have.
Fig. 1.6 Additional Panels
These were the new panels that I have added to comic panels, other than the ones that appeared in my triptych. The crow on the branch was looking across the graveyard. The panel fading away was also added to make it slowly fade away into the next part of the story.
The third picture was the graphic of the soil being popped up a bit as the results of the officer struggling to get out of the soil of being buried alive. The tombstone in the forth picture represented the status of the officer for being dead in the eyes of others, which scared the person that was sitting beside his grave.
Fig. 1.7 Additional Details added
The Gloucester MT Extra Condensed font were added as an expression of the person beside the grave as well the officer. The tracking of the letters for "Help me..." was higher to signify that the officer is suffering and beg for help. Meanwhile, the person beside the grave expressed disbelieve that the officer was alive.

Final Project: Animated Panels
Fig. 3.0 Animation in After effects 1
The movement of the head and the hand was adjusted using the keyframed Position and Rotation of the layer. Motion blur was also added to make the movement looked more dynamic instead of flat.
Fig. 3.1 Animation in After effects 2
The Turbulent Displace effect was added in order to create the effect that the person beside the grave was shivering and shaking. Adjustment of the keyframed Evolution did made the job done.
Fig. 3.2 Animation in After effects 3
The crow has a simple animation by using the Puppet Pin tool into making the slight animation of its head moving up and down as if it was looking at the graveyard and other matters.

Reflection
Experience
I have experienced the integration of animation on my comic panels. A process that have some ups and down as I have some minor problem in importing my files to the After effect. Overall, it was another great experience for me to get in touch with making movements to static vectors.
Observation
I have observed that the comic for the western would be read from the left to the right, while the Japanese manga would be read from right to left. These minor details would need to be considered for which type of categories the comic would be.
Findings
I found out that animations for this assignment need not to be too complicated. This is because sometimes less is more. Animations that were too complicated might sometimes backfire the whole animation. Which was why I just try to not go overboard for the animations.
