Project 2: Illustration poster - MyTIGER Values Art Competition 2023
For this assignment we were required to make a poster based on the 12 Sustainable Development Goals from the United Nations. We were required to choose 1 from the 12 themes available:

The poster created for this assignment would also be submitted as an entry in the MyTIGER Values Art Competition 2023 and compete in one of the categories of the competition.

Moodboard
Fig. 1.1 Compiled inspirations
These were my inspirations for my poster. I wanted to create a poster with the isometric style as it was something special and not everyone might be using this style as their poster for this assignment. I decided to go with the style of having gradient that blended well with the background of the posters. The isometric geometry will also be representing the buildings. In which, the color of the building will fade and blend with the background as it reached to the bottom of the building.
Sketching
Fig. 1.2 Sketch of ideas
The sketches that I have done, will split into the the first 3 and the next 3 sketches. The first 3 sketches has shown my ideas of making an isometric city that related to Affordable and Clean Energy. I would like a city with skyscrapers demonstrate the contrast between the usage of clean energy versus the ones that did not.
On the next 3 slides, it has shown my idea of wanting a frame that shows the electrical that went out of the frame, which will also describe as going out of the box instead of being limited.
Week 07-09 (19/05 - 02/06/2023)
Digitalization
Fig. 2.0 Isometric Grid
The Isometric grid was created by myself using ruler and guides. It served as one of my assistant in making sure that the geometric shapes were isometric accurate.
Fig. 2.1 Color variations attempts
The Gray and light green were used as the shades of the isometric geometry at first. Lighter Grays were used in attempts to create a balance and harmony appearance instead of looking too flat. Light Green was initially used as well to go well with the orange color of the solar panels. Unfortunately, the green one has to go while modifications and adjustments were done at later stage of the assignment.
Fig. 2.2 Wind turbines and Textures
At the end, the yellow color was chosen to go with the Light gray appearance of the buildings. The light gray buildings will be representing the ones that did not use the clean energy, meanwhile the Yellow buildings signified that it was using clean energy. With the bright Yellow chosen, it does represent a spark of light and activeness of the city, to show that the energy were used efficiently.
Apart from that, 3 colors were to be chosen for the Wind turbines and Solar Panels, which were Green, Orange or Yellow. At the end, Green was chosen to signify of Going Green and clean energy production. On top of that, Grain Texture were also added towards elements such as the buildings, wind turbines and solar panels. The texture was chosen to also blend out the background with the colors from the elements mentioned.
Fig. 2.3 Poster frame
Next, frames were also used during the process of creating the poster. The frame also symbolized the limitations of the implementations and roll out of clean energy production by a nation. The frame do also limited the vision towards a radius of the frame which we were not cleared if implementations of clean energy production were done at the area beyond the frame.
Fig. 2.3 The electrical Tiger
I have tried referencing the lightning to create an electrical tiger, to show that the tiger was travelling in the form of electricity. After that, I have changed my idea to make the tiger's tail extend while moving around the city, which will form a long tail. The electrical Tiger did went out of the frame with symbolize that even with given limitation, we should think out of the box to achieve greater good. It also meant that with the given limitations of implementing the clean energy production for the whole nation, different authorize could work together and go out of the box. By doing so, we could achieve the goal of having affordable and clean energy around the nation.

Reflection
Experience
This assignment allowed me to further my learning on isometric style. I have carried forward this style from the previous as I would like to experience another time of creating an artwork using the style as well as testing myself to see how far I could go in creating better than my previous assignment. The feeling of accomplishment after the completion of this assignment was great as I was happy with what I have created.
Observation
I observed that the color selection for the isometric were very important. As initial, I have chosen the green as the building color but it turned out not as great as the current color. Different shades of colours should also be in mind when using the colours as there would be a few shades to be mindful of.
Findings
I found that the grain effect texture could be used as a way to blend in with some elements. It was not solely used as a texture to make pixelisation or distortion. It was also a good texture to make a flat vector have their own chatecteriatica instead of the flat solid colour.
